There are 3 races of Crested Firebacks. The Lesser Bornean Crested Fireback (L. i. ignita) is from Java and southern Borneo; The Greater Bornean Crested Fireback (L. i. nobilis) is quite similar to the Lesser.

The third race, the Malay or Vieillot's Crested Fireback, is better know as it is more often kept in captivity. It is not an easy keeper, however, as it does not do well in cold climates.
